This is the light version of our Ili River routes. You leave Almaty and head into the Kazakh steppe — flat, open, fast. The terrain shifts between packed dirt, sandy stretches, and dusty canyon trails along the Ili River. You'll visit Tamgaly-Tas (Painted Rocks), where ancient Buddhist figures are carved into black cliffs. This is where you can actually open up the throttle. No tight forest turns, no steep climbs — just wide open space and the bike doing what it was built for. The ride back through the steppe at full speed is the highlight for most people.
Helmet, balaclava, body armor with arm protection, knee pads (worn over your pants), jersey, and gloves.
Water, windbreaker jacket (depending on weather), thick pants, and comfortable closed-toe shoes.

"Completely different from the mountain tours. Flat steppe, sandy dunes, then suddenly ancient Buddhist carvings on black cliffs by the river. The ride back is wide open, full speed across the desert."
Марат К."The Tamgaly petroglyphs are a UNESCO site — seeing them by e-bike made it special. Hot ride in summer though, bring lots of water!"
