Past the Mynzhylky dam, the terrain turns to loose scree — unstable slate that shifts under your wheels. Above 3,200m, you'll feel the altitude: pulse in your temples, heavy breathing, picking up a dropped bike takes real effort. Electric motors actually gain an advantage here — gas engines choke without oxygen, but ours don't care. The lake at the end is emerald-colored and surrounded by permafrost. Cold, stark, and worth the suffering to see.
Helmet, balaclava, body armor with arm protection, knee pads (worn over your pants), jersey, and gloves.
Water, windbreaker jacket (depending on weather), thick pants, and comfortable closed-toe shoes.
"3,550 meters. I could feel the altitude in my lungs from about 3,200m up. The lake sits in a bowl right below a glacier, water so clear you can see the bottom. Getting there took everything I had."
Айгерим Н."7 hours of riding to one of the most beautiful alpine lakes I've ever seen. The altitude hits you but the scenery is worth every breath."
