The route begins on the standard Kok-Zhailau forest road, but instead of heading back along the ridge, you push higher toward the old weather station. The trail gets rockier and steeper. By the time you're above the treeline, the air is noticeably thinner and the temperature drops. The reward: a view straight down into the Shymbulak valley and across to Medeu that you can't get any other way. Harder than basic Kok-Zhailau, but still manageable for someone with a few rides under their belt.
Helmet, balaclava, body armor with arm protection, knee pads (worn over your pants), jersey, and gloves.
Water, windbreaker jacket (depending on weather), thick pants, and comfortable closed-toe shoes.

"The climb to the meteostation is no joke — steep switchbacks but the views from the top are reward enough. Serious intermediate ride."
Руслан Б."Challenging but manageable for someone with basic riding experience. The pass offers 360-degree panoramas. Bring warm layers!"
