MKAD is an ironic name — the abbreviation matches Moscow's ring highway, but this is a massive off-road loop through the foothills above Almaty. You ride up through Kargalinka to the True Balcony, descend the other side on loose gravel toward Wolf Mountain (famous among local downhillers), and loop back through the Kaskabas area. It's fast, dusty, and physically demanding. The downhill sections are steep enough to test your brakes. A 10-hour loop that covers more ground than any other single-day route.
Helmet, balaclava, body armor with arm protection, knee pads (worn over your pants), jersey, and gloves.
Water, windbreaker jacket (depending on weather), thick pants, and comfortable closed-toe shoes.
"MKAD route is the marathon of mountain biking. 10 hours of non-stop riding through varied terrain. Only for those who crave the grind."
Болат Н."This route circumnavigates the mountains around Almaty. You see the city from every angle. Punishing distance, unforgettable experience."
