Sur-Ron Light Bee X
Light & Easy
55 kg, easy to handle, forgiving on mistakes. The bike most beginners start on. Good for forest trails and learning the basics.

Two of Almaty's most popular gorges, connected by a mountain pass. You start next to the Medeu skating arena, ride a bit of asphalt, then turn sharply onto a dirt trail climbing to Komissarovsky Pass at 2,000m. The pass is rough - deep ruts from rain, loose rocks, exposed roots. Once you crest the ridge, it's a steep descent through forest straight into Butakovka gorge. Cool shade, clean air, and a short walk to a 30-meter waterfall to finish. Solid intermediate route that gives you a taste of real mountain riding.
Helmet, balaclava, body armor with arm protection, knee pads (worn over your pants), jersey, and gloves.
Water, a windbreaker or jacket (depending on the weather), durable pants, and comfortable closed-toe shoes.

"Start at Medeu skating rink, end at Butakovka waterfall. The pass between them at 2,000m is full of rain ruts and head-sized rocks. My arms were shaking on the descent. Great route if you want to actually work for it."
Арман Т."Great route combining two classic destinations. The trail between them is surprisingly technical. Solid intermediate challenge."

Long, grinding climb through Kargalinka Gorge to nearly 3,000m. At the top: a rock shelf hanging over a green valley. Almost no one hikes this far - you'll have it to yourself.

Same start as Kok-Zhailau, but instead of turning back, you keep climbing. Rocky trail to 2,500m with views down onto Shymbulak and Medeu that most people never see.

Up through the forest to Kok-Zhailau, back along the razor-thin mountain ridge. Drops on both sides. Requires steady nerves and good balance.
